Celandine is a perennial plant, belonging to the poppy family, which can reach 70 cm height.
It grows everywhere in Italy (I'm italian), in uncultivated places, along water courses, near the hedges.
It has yellow flowers which bloom during spring. They have a gnarled stem and serrated leaves.
This herb must be used under medical or herbalist control since it contains chelidonine, an alkaloid that can be dangerous if taken in high doses.
Both dried leaves of celandine and the whole plant are used, as well as the latex coming out making cuts, which is then dried and powdered.
It has antispasmodic, caustic and cosmetic properties.
